Why should one get into photography? Well, although the money can be good, usually people get into photography for the creative aspect. Photography is not one of the top earning careers, as is the case with many other careers in the arts. If one plans to spend some long hours, strange hours such as nights and weekends, and just enjoys learning about photography, it can be a wonderful career. Photography as a business is something many aren’t used to. They think just getting into it, the money will come as will the jobs. Since this is not usually the case, it is important to learn from others about the business side of photography as well.

Portrait photography is in my opinion one of the most fun photography hobbies. It can make money if done well. Here are some portrait photography tips:

Get a good tripod to photograph with.
When just starting out, find models or students in college who will be willing to trade for prints, or trade for electronic copies of photos. This way, you can get practice and so can they.
Lighting is very important. Although studio lighting can be useful, some of the best photography is done with natural light.
Be creative. If using a digital camera, experiment over and over.
